Georgia-Pacific promotes Fischer to CEO

Georgia-Pacific, the maker of Brawny paper towels, Dixie cups and other consumer products, has a new president and chief executive.

The Atlanta-based unit of Koch Industries said Christian Fischer was promoted to the post after a decade as executive vice president of the company’s packaging and cellulose segment.

Fischer succeeds Jim Hannan, who was promoted to a broader, newly created job that includes oversight of Georgia-Pacific as well as other units of Kansas-based Koch Industries. Hannan had been Georgia-Pacific’s president and CEO since 2007.

Georgia-Pacific brands also include Quilted Northern and Angel Soft toilet paper and Vanity Fair napkins. It also supplies building products to dealers and home improvement retailers, and it has a recycling business, GP Harmon Recycling, that it says is among the world’s largest.
